SPRING HOME MAINTENANCE CHECKLIST

Spring is upon us. When the rains have stopped and the grounds have dried, it’s time for some work to be done. That includes home maintenance. Whether it is for damage repair, a simple tidy, or an exciting makeover, take advantage of the spring season to get your home in great shape!

Here are a few key points for your home maintenance this spring:

1. Roof, Gutter, and Downpipes

Your roof is your first line of defense. Inspect and repair any damage on your roof, and don’t forget the gutters. The gutters direct rain to protect your roof and your home, so remove any debris and ensure they are clean.  Also, be sure your downpipes are clear and allow water to flow through with ease.  If necessary, clear any blockages. Otherwise, there’s a good chance you won’t notice the damage until you need an expensive repair.

2. Window and Door Screens

Screens serve a great purpose to your home. Do some gentle scrubbing on your screens with soapy water. Also, patch small holes, if needed.

3. Walkways and Driveways

Inspect for cracks in your walkway and driveway. Repairing damages sooner will prevent any further damage and higher repair costs later.

4. Exterior Paint

A great paint job will not only make your home look fresher but also provide a protective barrier to prevent any water damages. A simple paint retouching is easy to do and inexpensive.

5. Sealing around windows and doors

It is important to keep your home sealed. It helps you save on energy and repair costs, as it reduces your air-conditioning needs as well as prevents any water entering your home that potentially causes damage. The winter conditions could have damaged the caulk and other weather seals. Inspect them now and repair immediately.

6. Water heater

Sediments will build up in your water heater tank. Use the spigot near the bottom of the heater to drain it. This simple maintenance will prolong its life and reduce your electricity bill.

7. Yard / Garden Vegetation

The spring weather provides the perfect conditions for restoring vegetation. Clip and prune as required and considering planting some blossoming flowers or other flora. Prepare your lawnmower and trim and tidy your way through the yard.
