01 Dec BACK TO THE FUTURE: 70’S RENOVATION SUCCESS STORY
A number of people said that our lives are not measured by the number of breaths we take. Instead, it is measured by the moments that take our breathe away. These are my clients’ stories – the moments when they took my breathe away. This week, we found a 70’s home a place in the modern timeline.
MEET WENDY AND JOE FROM WHALE BEACH
Wendy was especially sick and tired of looking after such a large home. She desperately wanted to play golf but constantly found herself looking after chores like home painting, cooking, maintenance, gardening, and pool cleaning. She often wondered, “What on earth am I still doing this?”
On the other hand, Joe is ho-hum about moving. He knew they need to but saw no urgency yet. Both knew that they wanted a better life but the ‘getting ready to sell’ task ahead was just too hard to deal with. He often found himself thinking, “What do we do?”
THE EXTERIOR STORY: SETTING THE PROJECT’S CORNERSTONES
Wendy and Joe have shared their home for 41 years. They first moved to the home when their youngest was a toddler. Within the home, the architraves and skirting are all brown, the carpet is cream, and the walls were apricot and have since been painted cream. The curtains are peach, and the lovely deck has lattice style ballasturs looking out onto the red-brick pavers around the pebblecrete pool. Something was solidly amiss; alas, the home decor has not been updated for quite some time!
FROM CORNERSTONES TO PILLARS
So Wendy and Joe had me over for an Initial Appraisal. All of us were excited by the prospect of the ‘to-do’ list being crystallised. The approach was to aim at what their target market of 40 year-olds with young children want to see and make them compete for it. We had the detailed walk-through, we prioritised the list, we worked out what they could do and what I will coordinate for them, and we got stuck into the project.
Motivated by the project’s progress, the changeover of items, and the updating, Wendy and Joe started going out on Saturdays looking at prospects for their new ‘easy to care for’ home. They also asked their Sales agent to look out for something for them and hired the Buyer’s Agent too.
As a result, Wendy and Joe were relieved and delighted to find a new property they could move to. I also enabled them to know what to do to get top dollar for their home and what furniture to keep, sell, toss, and buy for the staging of the old and move to the new home. Everything came together as a unified piece.
THE INTERIOR STORY, THAT BOUND US ALL
Wendy and Joe are now happily homed in their new abode, loving the lifestyle, the extra golf adventure, and the extra stress-free time together for themselves and their friends. They are now seeing more of the people they love and they started reconnecting to those people they lost touch with. They are doing more of the things that they wanted to do only because they decided to do something right on their former home.
THE BREATHTAKING MOMENT
As for me, the greatest gift I always receive is the happiness I see in my clients. Wendy and Joe just cement my vision of helping every family home or homeowner achieve their property investment goals. At this point, the BG mission to help others lives on. 🙂
