15 Dec PRACTICAL PROPERTY STYLING TAKEAWAYS 2014
Each year is a journey and as we approach the end of 2014, it’s the best time to look back and reflect on the year that was and share! So, from the BG Property Styling team, we’ve got our top 5 practical property styling insights.
Keep it simple yet elegant
“Complications come from the mind; simplicity from the heart.” Sometimes, clients find it difficult to start a makeover project because they are in conflict. But this conflict does not come from confusion about what needs to be done. It comes from feelings of uncertainty. That is where I can help. I help my clients understand how property styling is done by simplifying the complex processes. And much like this method, I always aspire for a property to look simple yet elegant.

Keep it light and bright
“Always look at the bright side of life” (we know a song about that!) This quote hardly applies in property styling but when you look at a house with colour harmony, everything “fits into place.” And we’re not only talking painting a house white here; we’re talking about the holistic use of wonderful colours in a whole house palette. Clients will always have a vision of colour, and that serves as our guide in making a home shine bright.

Keep it planned and organised
“You don’t get a second chance to make a positive first impression.” That’s our ‘tag-line’ and what I always tell my clients. It somehow became the trademark of our pre-project coordination work. I, for one, believe that “by failing to prepare, you’re preparing to fail.” Hence, before a project commences, the time we put into planning reaps rewards for the client. We then proceed to organise the work that needs to be completed. As daunting as it may seem, I know that clients love the framework. Because we help them lead them towards making their dream home come true!

Keep it surreal but natural
“Nature is not a place to visit, it is home.” It is where we live so we need to take care of it. Many Australians love the outdoor life which leads to innovations in property styling that crosses nature’s boundaries. What if a home is in the heart of the city? There are ways and means of achieving this with styling, bringing in the outdoor colours into accessories and furnishings always works well. Mirrors can be used wherever possible to reflect the beautiful outdoors. Creating the indoor-outdoor living story through furnishings and renovation always adds value and appeal.

Keep it lean and clean
“Happiness is a clean and an organised home!” Sometimes, the only thing that a home needs is tender, loving care. Through the TLC formula, the beauty of a home shines through. With spotless kitchen countertops, glimmering bathroom tiles and grout, clean windows, no spiderwebs!, attention to detail and tidy cupboards, a home may be showcased at its best. This is always covered in the process of an Initial Appraisal. When I meet with clients, I always assume a third-person point of view and explain to them what it is that I see that presents opportunity. This visit is always a ‘first impression’, so valuable for them – we become the eyes of a potential purchaser or the future occupier! This is about ‘vision you can trust’.
